Travertine is one of the most common materials used for backsplashes, shower, bathroom vanity tops, fireplaces and more. It is not a good choice for kitchen counter tops due to its high calcium content which will quickly react with the weakest of acids and create pits in the stone surface. Even with continuous sealing, travertines are subject to pitting from reaction with acids.
